It takes more effort, time, and, when using brewing machines at home, money to make a good cup of coffee. A good cup is composed of freshly ground coffee mixed with freshly boiled water. Usually, the simplest methods are the best.
Here are some of the biggest mistakes that we make when brewing coffee. Read on and find out what you have been doing wrong to your own cup.
You may be putting too little coffee.
The food service standard in the United States says that we should be using four ounces of coffee per 64 ounces of water. It is a common mistake among us to think that the more expensive the coffee is, the stronger it must be brewed to make the best out of it.
You may be grinding the coffee too fine.
Finer grinds extract faster than coarser grinds. Find the perfect grind fineness for your machines to prevent clogging in the filtering system of the brewing machine.
You may be extracting the coffee too much.
Home drip coffeemakers usually produce a pot of coffee in more or less ten minutes. The problem generally occurs before the brewing process is over where the grounds are overly extracted, creating a bitter tasting brew. A solution to this problem may be to turn off the coffee after five or six minutes, removing the filter, dumping the coffee, rinsing the filter, and replacing it in the brewer. Turn the machine on again, and let the brewer finish its job. This little extra effort will bring about better cups.
Brew only what you plan to drink.
Do not expect a cup of coffee poured twenty minutes later to taste as good as the first pour. This is true even if an insulated pot with a thermostat is used.
Use good-tasting water.
Bad-tasting water will never be covered up by the coffee taste. The water you use must taste sweet and is with minerals, never distilled.
Make sure the equipment you use when brewing are odor-free and tasteless.
Coffee pots are for coffee ONLY. Never try to brew tea on the kettle where you boil your coffee. This may have a large effect on the taste of you brew. Coffee filters sometimes contribute bad taste on the coffee. Try pouring some boiling water into the filter first, then throw the rinse water away before brewing.
Just follow these quick simple steps carefully and surely, you are on your way to the perfect cup you always wanted.
