Coffee makers are appliances that brew coffee without boiling water in a separate container. There are different types of coffeemakers available in the market using various brewing principles. All of these serve the same purpose, but the difference lies in the taste of the coffee.
In all of the coffee makers, the grounded coffee is kept in a paper or metal filter inside a funnel, set over a glass or ceramic coffee pot. Cold water is then poured into a separate chamber, which is heated up to the boiling point, and directed into the funnel.
The various coffeemakers are as follows:
- Drip Coffeemaker brews coffee, in which the hot water is poured drip by drip through one tablespoon of medium ground coffee placed in the filter-bag, and the required coffee is obtained..
- Percolator brews coffee, by letting the boiling water (and steam) pass through the grounded coffee kept above the pot, till all the flavors have been washed, and the coffee flows back into the pot.
- Vacuum Coffeemaker brews coffee, using two chambers where vapor pressure and vacuum produce coffee. This is clean, crisp, rich and smooth compared to other brewing techniques. This is also known as vac pot, siphon or syphon coffee maker.
