Real Coffee Health Risks
It would be irresponsible to suggest that there is absolutely no detriment to a coffee drinkers health if they abuse the beverage. Like any other herb, consuming excessive amounts is bound to be bad for you. So what are the genuine health risks to drinking more than 4 cups of coffee a day?
Caffeine is a stimulant, and as such increases blood pressure among people with high blood pressure. Too much caffeine can cause insomnia, anxiety and irritability.
Excessive coffee drinking can worsen symptoms of PMS in some women or reduce fertility in women trying to conceive. It can also increase the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
Heavy coffee use can also cause heartburn and indigestion, and increase blood levels of homocysteine and the related risk of cardiovascular disease.
There is some concern about the possible long-term effects of coffee drinking on heart disease, fibrocystic breast disease, stomach ulcers and pancreatic and/or colorectal cancer, though there is no definitive proof that any of these diseases are linked to coffee use.
