Robusta Beans

Robusta coffee beans taste ranges from neutral to harsh. They are often described as having a grainy, almost oatmeal-like flavor . Their un-roasted smell is often described as similar to raw peanuts.

The high-quality Robustas are rare and reserved exclusively for the best Robusta containing espressos. In the U.S. you will generally find exclusively Robusta beans in the jars of instant. Robusta beans are used in some Italian coffee brands offered for sale in the United States.

Robustas are hardy and tough plants that can be grown at altitudes as low as 200 to 800 meters and continue to flourish. They can stand up to rough handling and pests that would ruin the more delicate Arabica beans. More importantly, they yield more pounds of finished goods per acre at a lower cost of production. Robusta beans also contain roughly twice as much caffeine as Arabica beans.
