Recipe for cooking old-fashioned sugared jelly doughnuts

Old-Fashioned Sugared Jelly Doughnuts

1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. salt
2 pkg. yeast
3 eggs, separated
1/3 c. sugar
1/3 c. butter
1/2 c. warm water
3 3/4 c. flour
Vegetable oil for frying

Scald milk; add sugar, salt and butter. Add yeast to warm water. Stir in milk mixture, egg yolks and 2 c. flour. Add remaining flour. For jelly filled, roll dough about 1/4-in. thick. For regular doughnuts, roll about 3/8 to 1/2-in. thick and cut.

Jelly Doughnuts: Place 1 tsp. jelly on circle and brush top circle with egg whites on one side and seal. Fry at 375 degrees F until done.
