Recipe for cooking almond caramels

" Almond Caramels1 c. sugar 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/2 c. light corn syrup 1 1/2 c. light cream 1/4 c. butter or butter replacement 1 tsp. vanilla extract or flavoring 1/2 c. chopped, toasted almonds Butter bottom and sides of a 9 x 5-in. loaf pan. In 2-qt. saucepan combine sugars, corn syrup, cream and 1/4 c. butter. Cook and stir over med. heat until sugars dissolve. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, to firm ball stage (248 degrees F). Remove from heat; stir in vanilla extract or flavoring and almonds. Turn into greased pan. Cool. Cut in squares. Makes approximately 36. "
