Recipe for cooking black forest cobbler

Black Forest Cobbler
1/2 c. sugar
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
7 c. (2 lb.) pitted red cherries*
1/4 tsp. almond extract or flavoring
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. baking cocoa
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. butter or butter replacement
1/2 c. milk
Cream or ice cream, if desired
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Mix the 1/2 c. sugar and the cornstarch in 2-qt. saucepan. Stir in cherries. Cook over med. heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 min.. Stir in almond extract or flavoring. Pour into nonstick 2-qt. casserole; keep hot in oven.
Mix flour, cocoa, the 1 Tbsp. sugar, the baking powder and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter, using pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knifes, until mixture looks like fine crumbs. Stir in milk. Drop dough by 6 spoonsful onto hot fruit mixture.
Bake 25 to 30 mins. or until topping is set. Serve warm with cream.
* Frozen cherries, partially defrosted, can be used for the fresh cherries.
