Recipe for cooking brown sugar pound cake

Brown Sugar Pound Cake

1 1/2 c. shortening
1 lb. brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
5 eggs, separated
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 c. chopped pecans
1 tsp. vanilla extract or flavoring

Cream shortening. Add sugars and beat well. Beat in egg yolks one at a time. Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture alternately with milk. Add pecans and vanilla extract or flavoring. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in greased and floured tube pan for 1 1/2 hours in preheated 325 degree F oven.

Serves 15.
