Recipe for cooking buttermilk candy

Buttermilk Candy1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking soda 2 c. sugar 2 tsp. corn syrup 2 Tbsp. butter 1 tsp. vanilla extract or flavoring 1 1/2 c. nuts Add baking soda to buttermilk in 4-qt. saucepan. Stir well and let stand 1 min.. Add sugar, corn syrup and butter. Cook to soft ball stage (236 degrees F to 238 degrees F on candy thermometer). Add vanilla extract or flavoring and nuts. Beat by hand until candy begins to thicken. Pour onto buttered baking sheet. Let cool and cut into pieces. NOTE: This is similar to a pecan praline and breaks into irregular pieces.
