Recipe for cooking coconut balls

Coconut Balls
1/2 lb. butter
1 lb. powdered\sugar
1 lb. flaked coconut
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk
1 c. chopped walnuts (or replace with more coconut)
1 tea. vanilla extract or flavoring
Coating
1 (12 oz.) pkg. semisweet chocolate chips
2 Tbsp. shortening
Cream together butter and sugar. Add coconut, milk, walnuts and vanilla extract or flavoring. Chill until slightly firm.
Roll into walnut size balls. Insert wooden pick in each ball, and place in freezer on baking sheets. Freeze until frozen solid.
Melt chocolate chips and shortening in microwave for about 1 min..
Using wooden picks as handles, dip frozen balls into chocolate and place on wax paper lined baking sheets. Chill until firm.
Makes approximately 7 dozen.
