Recipe for cooking German Sweet Chocolate Cake

German Sweet Chocolate Cake
4 oz. German chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. butter or butter replacement
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla extract or flavoring
2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Melt chocolate in boiling water; let cool. Cream butter and sugar; add egg yolks, vanilla extract or flavoring and chocolate, beating well after each addition. Add flour with baking soda sifted in, alternately with buttermilk. Fold in egg whites. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 8- or 9-in. cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 40 mins.. When cool, frost with Coconut Pecan Icing.
Coconut Pecan Icing
1 c. evaporated milk
1 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla extract or flavoring
1 1/3 c. coconut
1 c. pecans, chopped
Cook milk, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla extract or flavoring until thickened. Add coconut and pecans. Cool, then beat until it is of spreading consistency.
